A year's journey
A year ago, I ended my 2 year grad school adventure with an amazing group thesis show in the Chelsea section of New York City. Any artist's dream! It was a wonderful way to conclude the experience and close that chapter of my life. It was also a brand new start to getting back on the road to living like a normal functioning member of society. And a chance to gather up my sanity that had been scattered about like sheep that needed herding.
Since then, I've continued teaching two classes at Seton Hall University and started teaching two new classes at Union County College in New Jersey. Basically being a full-time adjunct professor with a hectic schedule and an unglamorous pay. I've also moved to Jersey City with the NYC lights essentially twinkling in my backyard. I've continued to work on my art practice by making new art, taking photographs, and shooting short videos. I've exhibited a new stained glass installation in Newark, shown new cyanotypes in Brooklyn, featured a new short film at a film festival, and in the process of sending a piece to Argentina for a traveling exhibition. On top of that, I'm gearing up for my first solo show in September.
With all that said and done, I still need to step up my self promotion skills because I'm truly lacking in that category. I'm not sure why but I find it pretty difficult to talk about myself. Unfortunately, I have to get over that super quick because self promotion is pretty critical to being an artist today.
Looking back over this past year, I can honestly say that I'm where I'm suppose to be. Cheers to making dreams come true! Though obtaining goals are a whole lot harder than just setting them, they're still definitely achievable...that is if you set your mind to it, work really hard, get frustrated along the way, cry then quickly dry those tears up and get back to work. It's taken me a lot of work, much stress, many sacrifices, huge hurdles to jump over, a lake full of tears, and some excessive hair pulling to get to where I am today, but I guess that's what this journey is all about. So welcome to my journey. I hope to continue sharing it with you more.
